The Hartley & Noble Spider Batt.
Our multi-purpose Spider Batt is manufactured using our 6mm Premium MDF. This product does not come with batt pin holes but it can be used with our Stay-Put Batt Rug
The Batt is split into 16 equal sections with a circle drilled and painted every 25mm from the centre. It is then laquered to protect the wood and create a batt that is built to last.
When Throwing... Make centering and coning a doddle by using the highly visible concentric lines to position your ball of clay at the centre of the wheel.
For Sgraffito, Carving or Painting... use the evenly spaced, precise grid lines to plot and mark out your decorative designs.
For Trimming... When your pot is leatherhard and ready for trimming, apply just a little bit of water to the batt, turn the wheel and smooth out the water over the batt with a small sponge. Then gently run the sponge around the rim of the pot. Put the pot on to the batt (rim side facing down). Gently tap it to ensure suction. Trim-away!
These batts are made to order in our workshop in Northamptonshire. We design, cut, and hand finish them with a gentle chamfered edge that's kind to the hands during throwing. Then we hand paint the grid lines, sand the batt smooth, and apply a protective lacquer spray.
